Use the French medicine database and ANSM

Start your product check with the French medicine database and ANSM information. If an English brand search fails, search by active ingredient, and check the exact dosage form. An article about semaglutide may concern a diabetes tablet, a weight-management tablet or an injection. Each needs its own purchase instructions. Ask the pharmacist to show you the French leaflet for the product they plan to supply.

Clinical eligibility and payment are separate

Ask your clinician which criteria apply to the prescription and whether a specialist needs to be involved. Then confirm reimbursement for your indication with the relevant payer. Marketing authorisation alone does not mean the medicine is reimbursed. Get a private quote where needed, covering medical appointments and dispensing. If a service quotes only an introductory price, ask what continuing treatment costs at your prescribed strength.

Online sale rules differ across Europe

A website selling a medicine elsewhere in Europe has no automatic permission to send the medicine to France. Check the sale against French rules and look up the supplying pharmacy on the official register. A copied EU logo proves nothing. Ask whether the site offers a clinical consultation, arranges a local prescription or ships medicine across a border. Each is a different activity.

Prepare for a French pharmacy visit

Carry a written medicine list with generic names, current strength and the date of your last dose. Ask ahead about stock and whether your prescription documents will be accepted. A screenshot on your phone may help as background, but do not expect a pharmacy to dispense from one. If you are offered a different presentation, ask for a demonstration and written instructions. Familiar pack colours or an old device are a poor guide.

Before you buy in France

Check the current product entry with ANSM before you buy. Confirm the exact product and indication for Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo. Authorisation, prescription, reimbursement, stock and permission to carry medicine across borders are all decided separately in France.

  • Ask a French clinician which product suits you and whether your treatment history is enough for an assessment.
  • Ask for the total cost, including consultations, dispensing and delivery, before you commit to ongoing treatment.
  • Keep the original packaging, prescription and dispensing record. Show the pharmacist any damaged parcel or medicine with uncertain storage before you use it.

Sources

Your own medicine leaflet and prescriber come first. A source from another country does not mean the same rule applies in the UK.
