Check COFEPRIS alerts on fake medicines

COFEPRIS and Mexican state health authorities publish medicine safety and counterfeit alerts. Past alerts have covered falsified Ozempic. Read the current alerts and ask the pharmacist to confirm the medicine's identity and where the pharmacy sourced it. A box that looks like a familiar brand proves nothing about whether the medicine is genuine. Keep the invoice and packaging so the pharmacy and manufacturer can investigate any concern.

Confirm the Mexican registration with a pharmacist

Ask a locally licensed clinician or pharmacist to find the exact product registration, formulation and approved use. The current Mexican status of every Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, oral Wegovy and Foundayo presentation has not been confirmed for each product, so treat it as an open check and not as a ban. A seller saying a product is imported tells you nothing about whether the sale is lawful.

Check US rules before you cross the border

Before you take a Mexican purchase into the USA, check the FDA rule for your status. A pharmacy receipt gives you no import permission. Visitor rules do not apply to US residents. Settle this before you pay. The US country guide sets out the difference.

Know who is responsible for your care

Ask who is prescribing, which parts of your medical history they review and who will follow you up after your trip. Do not switch products or strengths because a different box is in stock. If you travel with the medicine, get storage advice for your exact pen or pack and check how much your home country lets you bring back. Compare the full cost of consultation, medicine and ongoing care. One advertised pharmacy price is a poor guide.

Check the product with COFEPRIS before you buy

Confirm the exact product and its approved use with COFEPRIS before buying Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo in Mexico. Approval, clinical suitability, funding, pharmacy stock and import permission each need their own check.

  • Ask a clinician in Mexico which product suits you and whether your treatment history is enough for an assessment.
  • Ask for one written price covering the consultation, dispensing and delivery before you commit to a course of treatment.
  • Keep the box, the prescription and the pharmacy's dispensing record together. If a parcel arrives damaged or you doubt how the medicine was stored, ask the pharmacist before you inject it.

Sources

Your own medicine leaflet and prescriber come first. A source from another country does not mean the same rule applies in the UK.
