Check mainland Chinese product information

The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) regulates medicines in mainland China. Search for the active ingredient and ask a local clinician or pharmacist to name the exact authorised brand and presentation. English-language launch news often lags behind the local product information or simplifies it. Our sources do not confirm every current Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablet or Foundayo authorisation in mainland China.

Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao each have their own rules

If your trip takes in Hong Kong or Macao as well as mainland China, check the medicine and customs rules in each place. A medicine bought lawfully in one place does not gain permission to enter another. When you ask an authority for travel guidance, describe your exact itinerary, quantity and product, and say whether the medicine travels by post or in your luggage.

Translate your medicine details precisely

Write a medicine list with the generic name, brand, strength, dosage form and prescribed schedule. Keep the original prescription and packaging with any translation. If a local product uses a different brand or device, ask a pharmacist to explain the instructions in a language you understand. Never judge dose equivalence from a similar-looking pack, a translated marketing claim or the total milligrams printed on a carton.

Check the provider and your ongoing plan

An online marketplace listing is no substitute for a clinical assessment. Find the licensed clinical service and dispensing pharmacy, and ask how they will handle your medical history, follow-up and side effects. Confirm the full cost and whether insurance covers your indication. For a long stay, arrange local care before your supply runs out. Overseas delivery brings its own import and storage problems, and these are slow to fix.

Confirm the product with the NMPA before you buy

Check the exact product and its approved use with the NMPA before buying Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo. Approval, clinical suitability, insurance cover, stock and import rules each need their own check.

  • Ask a clinician in mainland China which product suits you and whether your treatment history is enough for an assessment.
  • Ask for a full quote with consultations, dispensing and delivery before you commit to ongoing treatment.
  • Keep the packaging, prescription and dispensing record together. If a parcel is damaged or its storage is uncertain, ask a pharmacist before use.

Your own medicine leaflet and prescriber come first. A source from another country does not mean the same rule applies in the UK.
